Brighton Wedding Photography : Sarah & Bernie : Part One

Sarah & Bernie’s Sussex wedding day was one that fitted the mould, by my own characterisation, of an Anglo-Antipodean affair. This definition if of course predicated by the fact of one party to the marriage hailing from British climes and the other from Australia (or New Zealand, but in this case Australia) but on top of all of that it is a definition that denotes and emotes to me the prospect and the practical manifestation of a wedding day wherein the plans go as follows: we get married, we celebrate. There’s always a deal of planning and attention to detail, of course, but the underlying philosophy and mindset is one that makes for the most laid back but at the same time energetic of days, one within which the energy is expended as good as entirely on celebration, as little as is humanly possible on worries and stress about how it all might turn out.

And Sarah & Bernie’s wedding day was utterly laid back, it was wholesomely energetic and it did all turn out as beautiful as beautiful can be.

I hadn’t been able to meet with Sarah & Bernie in person prior to the big day, by virtue of the fact that the two live in Australia. And that I don’t. We kept up via email though and met, virtually speaking, via Skype when it was night-time here and morning there, or maybe when it was morning here and night-time there. Despite only meeting in person on the day itself though, I felt instantly at home with both them, their families and their friends; to a tee welcoming, warm-hearted and wonderfully engaging sorts. Good people, downright nice people, fundamentally decent souled and fun to boot. Immersing myself into their wedding day was like slipping into a comfy pair of… well, slippers. Highly comfortable ones.

Sarah was getting ready for the day at her family home in Brighton. It was lovely to see how the Internet and video-conferencing allowed some of those that were unable to make it up and over from Australia to share in something of the excitement of the day.

Bernie was getting ready for the day somewhere down towards the centre of town…

All suited up…

All local to the local, a pub opposite the church and Sarah’s family home all of a few minutes walk up the road.

Oops…

Mr & Mrs Married…

All part of the laid-backness of a laid back day, the bus that would transport everyone on for the next stage of the day hadn’t arrived yet. It wasn’t late; it just wasn’t due for some time. So everyone crossed the road and made way to the pub :~)

And when it arrived, well within time, a beautiful bus it was too…

I spied a courting couple and imagined a question being popped just there…

I didn’t think I’d let the para-gliders have all the fun photo-bombing the group photos so I swooped on in myself…

‘Twas a bit windy up there…
