Dorset Wedding : Susan & Emil

My marketing manager’s been at work again.

Susan is one of my daughter’s nursery teachers. She and her colleagues really do a fantastic job of it. As such, there was something particularly special to me about this commission, a great honour and a privilege indeed.

Susan & Emil married at Poole Guildhall and celebrated at the Riviera Hotel in Bournemouth, the former one of the most elegant, airy and light marriage venues I have worked at and the latter, a family run concern, boasting some of the most exceptional service and attention to detail and care that I have yet encountered.

I was accompanied on this outing by Bournemouth photographer Graham Fox. He’s that exclusive he doesn’t even have a Web site for me to link to but I can say it was a great pleasure having him along and I look forward to working with him again in future.

Susan was preceded up the aisle by her two daughters and her niece, and given away by her two sons. A finer set of offspring one would be hard pressed to find.

I've always wanted to work from the balconies at the Guildhall but there's no way to move from them onto the main floor without opening one of two large side doors, risking interruption of proceedings in the process. With a wee tinge of envy I sent Graham up top where he could add some unique viewpoints to each key stage of the marriage ceremony.

It turned into something of a day of those meant to make eye contact with the camera not doing so, and vice versa. Though really there is no 'supposed to' about it all. At least it helps keep the existential crisis of being a wedding photographer in check.

Don't look now.

Spotted. Just my look.

Some more of the little one's nursery teachers. They really are a brilliant bunch. The day she came home and declared, "Daddy, I want to be a genius!" suggested they've been going above and beyond the call of duty though.

Blinker or bliss, Emil is certainly floating down those stairs.

They actually are that steep. No, really.

On a hot Summer's day, down into the leafy cool of Alum Chine we all headed.

Graham with his tilt-shift lens, right. Intrepid offspring forced to tilt and trying not to shift, top.

Not Graham. It was that relaxed and easy going a day, dare I say it we even had time to do more in the way of group photographs than we'd scheduled for.

As I said, they are that steep.

I loved the details at this wedding. Everything coordinated beautifully. Graham was particularly delighted to discover that even the table top cameras matched the colour scheme.

Susan's two lads opened the speeches and hit all the targets required from such things.

I'm up for a print swap if you're reading this.

Ditto.

Susan has a particular fondness for the beach so a fine dinner and set of speeches done we headed down to the sand as the Sun approached the horizon (unfortunately over the cliffs at this time of year and not over the sea itself). Beautiful light and a good time of day to avoid the crowds too...

A special thank you to Susan & Emil, from both Graham and I, for having us along to document your special day and for seeing to it that we were well fed and taken care of by the hotel staff.

Tony Good - It’s a bit like public transport; you wait for what seems like ages… and then three posts come along all at once! Well having now ‘caught’ them all, I can only say that it was well worth the wait, with your exquisite attention to detail you really do have a way of getting the viewer involved in ‘your’ weddings. Ding! Ding! Where will the magical mystery tour take us next I wonder?
Bravo Phill!
